metro-mike wrote:First time posting about a CBX I bought a few years ago. It's a 1982, Frame # SC06-2301785, Engine # SC03E-2804596

There is a long story on how I got it, but I was wondering what these # say about the bike. Thanks..........
A few things, Mike: Yours is a 1981 model, according to Honda. All 1981s had SC06-23..... frame numbers, 1982 models had SC06-24......
Also, your engine number is SC03E-2304596

Your bike rolled off the production line in the Saitama factory in March of 1981. Compared to the frame number, the engine number is relatively high, which is an oddity I have observed with many non-U.S. and Canadian CBX B-models.
For North America, a bike with a frame number below 2000 usually has an engine serial between 2000 and 3000.

..and I forgot: You being in Seattle, your bike is not a U.S. or Canadian market bike! It sure must be a story, how you got it. Like to hear it!

I picked up this CBX in Pretoria, SA. It had 1510 km on the odometer, just about 938 miles. The tires still have tire flash on the sides of the tire from when they were made.

A very clean orginal 1 owner bike, who was a retired race car driver from the area. He had a collection of bikes & cars, and his wife wanted him to get rid of the bikes.

I bought the CBX for a fair price, drove in around Pretoria for a couple of days, then lowered the rear ramp on the plane I was on and drove it on, tied it down and flew back to Seattle.

Like I said, there is a good story to buying this CBX.

A 'tickler' to go with the "How Many CBXs Made" ------- How many are still running, any shape or form, in the world? Rat bike to radical mod to 'rider' to museum quality original or resto? Me, I have no idea. How about 15000 for a starter WAG. Too high?!?

Probably too high. I would guess no more than 8,000 - 9,000.

I've always figured about a third, so maybe 12,000-13,000.

True - you just wonder where they keep coming up with whole, nice CBXs to part out. The last one mistermonkeyclaw did would have brought maybe 3K on ebay as a whole bike. He couldn't have paid that much for it to part it out, but who knows?
