1981 original tires ?

Post by FalldownPhil »

It has been my experience (as best I can recall) That all of the original CBX's I have seen or owned were sporting Dunlop Gold Seal tires from '79 - '82.
Does anyone know of something different that came as OEM from Honda ?? I have seen Bridgestones on a couple but had reason to believe they were replacements.
Thank you for your expertise in advance.
Best,
Phil

Same here Phil. Some said Bridgestones came OEM also, but never saw any.

My records only show the 79 model as listed with a Bridgestone tire option. The Bridgestones however were rated only "H", whereas the Dunlops were "V" rated tires. Contemporary test reports of the CBX mention the fact that the Dunlops were specifically developed for the CBX and had a unique groove pattern.

Phil,

I have a 1981 CBX school bike that has original tires. The front is a Bridgestone Mag Mopus S706, 3.50 V 19. and the rear is another Bridgestone Mag Mopus G508, 130/90 V 18. The date stamps on both indicate that they were made on the 50 week of 1980. They look new and still hold air pressure but are hard as granite. I hope this data is useful.

Thank you Joe !!
A little more confirmation on those tires. There is currently a still in the crate, '81 CBX school bike for sale
and it too has Bridgestone tires.
Very Best,
Phil
