Can't find the vin tag on my 81 Super Sport. I only have the stamped vin on the steering head. Did all cbx have a vin tag, and is it hidden somewhere?

On further inspection, I can see some small brass rivets on the left side of the steering head. Looks like it may have fallen off or been removed. Wonder if I can get a replacement?

There is a guy on ebay from Switzerland used to selling VIN plates. With your number on and everything. Don't know if he still does the U.S./Canadian steering neck plate.

Interesting he only sells two version of the 81 tag. One with a 2-81 date and one with a 3-81 date. Would it be safe to assume that mine would be the 2-81 date since my serial number is 300134 ??

1981s were built from January 1981 through April/May of 1981. Yours is definitely January. Mine is ....113

I got him started with the DOHC tags a couple of years ago, and I’m pretty sure he has a perfect blank for you, and he engraves them with the proper VIN and date info. I’m not quite as discerning as EMS but to my eye they were perfect. His name is Bruno and tell him I said ‘hi’.

For some reason these guys are insisting that my bike was manufactured 3-81. They don't seem to have a tag that says 1-81. I guess I'll order their 2-81 version and call it good.

Maybe the guys want to sell what they have and don't want or cannot make anything else.
European bikes did not have a tag with the production date on them, so records like that are non-existent over there.
Production of the 1981 or "B" model started in January of 1981. The first 650, or so, bikes were produced in January.
February production reached into the 1500s.
I will try to find a picture of a serial number AFTER yours with a January production date.

This is the best I can do. Not exactly what I hoped for, but it shows clearly that your VIN most likely falls into January 81 production
