Yamaha RZ350

Post by cross »

Hello guys,

Since this forum has some of the best bike collectors and experts on the planet i thought to ask here about Yamaha RZ350 that I'm interested in buying.
I don't know much about it other than that is yellow Kenny Roberts bike and is in pristine condition, at least cosmetically.
I would like to go and see it and make an offer but i know nothing about two stroke bikes or this particular bike. What is it that i should be looking for or asking the owner?

Thank you
Sasha

Just spoke with the guy and i'll be going tomorrow to see it.
It has 27k miles and had pistons changed 500 miles ago. Needs tires and brake hoses changed but probably full brake rebuild while at it.
If anyone can give me any insights on this bike it would be great!

Thanks Sasha

I know three RZ350s around here, I had the older RD350(still have a number of it's parts waiting for suitable project) they were very quick...getting the jetting just right was very tedious but when it's finally dialed in a great/fun ride...
CBX a work in progress, still improving...GS1150EFE completed and awaiting modifications.....RD350, remnants in boxes scattered throughout the garage

Good luck, Sasha.
One of the best looking Japanese bikes ever built, imho.

I went yesterday to see it and it is pretty nice.
Cowl and belly pan were painted and the color is slightly off.
Stars on first kick, he said that he will give it for $5k. I'm still waiting to hear from my buddy who has few rd500 that he restored so he can go with me and inspect it.
The problem that I have is that the block was bored and new pistons installed along with some head work and he said that the previous owner did it. Problem is that we don't know who did it and the quality of work. To rebuild that engine could cost a bunch but than again, I haven't seen any for sale for under $8k
Thank you for all for the info

I wouldn't, 5k too many unknowns

A friend recently bought a great RGV250 for $3K cdn ...a better ride Imo...for 5k you could probably have an excellent rgv shipped from Japan

I decided against it as i wasn't confident enough. If there was invoice of what was done to the engine i would of bought it.
It sold on Ebay for $4850.

Thanks guys

I have one sitting next to my CBX. Great little bike and surprisingly fast.

They will bring $5k all day long if in decent condition. Price just keeps going up on those.

Very common to mill the heads 0.020" for a little extra compression as long as you run premium fuel after that it's fine.

Probably not much risk in the new bore and pistons but that is an unknown. Simply Honed with new rings (or pistons) would not be an issue.
