Braided brake lines

Post by cross »

I bough on Ebay set of 4 Wezmoto braided brake lines that were listed to fit cbx1000 81-84.
Today they arrived and they seem thinner then stock rubber hoses.
Is this normal?
I will have to return anyway as the 4th short hose is too short for anywhere. Other 3 would work on the rear and front splitter to calipers.
It's too bad as they look really good with black cover.

Yes the steel lines are 2/3 the thickness of the thick stock lines. Some are thinner than others, but they are pretty much all that way. It's a worthy upgrade.

Cool,
These look really good with black fittings and vinyl over the lines.
I paid $55+ these and I don't want to return them so I'm going to have local shop make me MC to splitter line.
Is the rubber cover for the front MC fitting available somewhere?

Rubber boot is still available from Honda. Sounds like you bought a line set for a bike with sport kit handlebars. Check the listing and see if it says that. The Pro-Link bikes came from the factory with what we call the sport kits in some markets.

So did the 79 and 80. May very well be that this seller has brake lines patterned after the European models.

Yes, but the Pro-Link lines are different at the calipers, and that's what he has. So if he has the correct Pro-Link lines with a short top hose, then it's for a Sport-kitted Pro-Link. But more than likely the vendor just screwed up.

Here it's the ebay listing, expired but you can still see it.
I have no idea if they are the correct ones. The fittings do look smaller.
Listing did say 81-84 cbx1000 pro link

I am not sure, but I think Wezmoto is out of the U.K. If so, they would have European spec brake lines in their offerings, which is exactly what these probably are.
While there was no official "Sport Kit" for the Prolinks, the Euro bikes had a different set-up with lower bars, rear-set footpeg plates etc, pretty much like the 79s and 80s

Thanks,
At price that I paid for them I'll just keep them and have the top one made locally.
Are fitting generally smaller too on the steel braided lines?

Dave,

Rubber boot that goes over the hose connector in the MC is not in the honda catalog as individual part.
It seems to be together with the hose which is not available either.
Do you know the part number by any chance?

Don't know what source you checked, but the Honda part # for the boot is: 45522-422-000. That # may be superseded by now, but your Honda parts guy will figure it out if he's any good.

In the late model (Prolink) parts list, the boot is indeed not listed separately and comes with the front brake line. In the early model parts list (79 & 80) it is listed as a separate part, item 12 in the schematic. The number is as Dave stated.
It is also available on ebay quite often:

More on the free advice thing - if you go locally to have a brake line made, bring the one you have so they can match the fittings for size and position. I had one make locally and the banjo fitting was too large for the caliper - could not use it.

Thank you Nils, That is what they had till me when I called them.
Talking about banjo fittings, new ones are a bit smaller but they did come with new banjo bolts.
Is it ok if they are smaller?
I also found the rubber boot for the MC searching by the number Dave provided.
Thanks Guys
