Master Cylinder Reservoir

Post by Ed Townsend »

Looks like my front master cylinder reservoir on my 79 is weeping. Manual shows an o-ring which I assume needs to be replaced. Took out the 4 screws retaining the cover but can't seem to get the reservoir to come out - it'll rotate but that's all the movement I get. I'm reluctant to pry on it. Is there something besides an o-ring retaining it? Thanks again.

Yeah it will come out and all the parts are still available from Honda and not unreasonbly priced.Just get a screwdriver and start prying, first get the parts from Honda, just in case I'm wrong because I completely redid my master cylinder on my 79 in 1999 after it leaked brake fluid onto my tank.Brake fluid is very good paint remover and I would suggest the silicone type brake fluid, doesn't hurt paint if your rebuild doesnt take.My rebuild didnt cause the bore was coroded and I wound up geting a salvage item off a 750f

I have found mine to be VERY tight - once the screws are out, just carefully twist, pull, and pry until it comes out.
