Front brake wanted to lock up ?

Post by zxbob »

I went to take the CBX out to the Rock Store today and while pushing it out of the garage I noticed
that I had no front brakes. (no lever) I pumped the master a couple of times and and everything felt
perfect again. I saw nothing on the ground "but" checking the bottom of the calipers, one side had a
very slight amount of fluid at the base. (I rebuilt these with new pistons & sleeves)

I've put pretty close to a thousand miles on the bike since I finished it with no brake problems.

Anyway - the front brakes came back up so off I went. I got about 10 miles down the raod and the brakes
were trying to lock up. They were very hot and the bike was difficult to roll. I took a wrench and cracked
the brake line loose, tightened it back up and everything was fine. Im not quite sure what happened or
why but maybe someone here can share if the same thing has happened to you !

Sounds like a classic case of a sticking caliper, EXCEPT that it was fine after you cracked the line. That points to a clogged return port in the m/c.

Where both rotors hot? Did you "rap" on them to get the pistons to move, or just crack the line?

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.

Both rotors were hot - I just cracked the line loose at the caliper and the brakes were fine, I did'nt have to tap em.

But, I did'nt mention before that the front brake lever would'nt move at all.

You're gonna need to verify that both of the teeny holes from the reservoir down to the MC are clear, and that probably means prying off the reservoir. It might be possible to take a long piece of wire brush wire and poke through the holes on the neck of the reservoir to clear it, but you will want to see if that's the problem anyway.

Did you get your brakes fixed Bob? Was it a plugged reservoir? Did you get those Speigler lines mounted up yet? If so, how do you like 'em?
