Caliper swap from 79 to 81 ?

Post by AshishNJ »

I know this is backwards.
I can probably live with brake performance on 79 or let’s just say I got used to of it and understood how inefficient or efficient they are but I still hate the forks.

To make it short, I have all the parts to mount 81 forks to 79 . I just don’t want to go with heavy 81 rotors etc to improve on braking and would rather look for some aftermarket solution. If I were to mount 79 calipers on 81 forks, would they fit ? I want to keep rear of wheel as 79

I would think the benefit of the double piston '81 calipers would far outweigh the extra bit of weight from the '81 rotors.

Been mentioned here many times - go with 900F or similar rotors and calipers. With the 900F caliper hangers, it's a direct bolt on. Whole think much lighter than the Pro-Link set-up.

Dave - Are these going to be good fit on prolink forks

Caliper seem to be single piston similar to 79 CBX unless if am looking at wrong model

Should they not be twin piston ?

Yes, those are the 900f rotors. When searching for calipers, make sure to get the hangers too.

The link for calipers I posted as example are single piston, shouldn’t they be dual piston ?
I have the prolink caliper and hangers . I am assuming they would not work ?

That is not a 900F caliper, sorry I didn't respond. No, the Pro-Link calipers are for larger-diameter and vented rotors - hangers are different also.

Found a set of rotors in good shape . Would these be a fit?

Not sure where you are in regards to acquiring parts for this swap but the link you provided is for calipers not rotors.
Is this what you meant to post? And yes they would fit.

Those calipers are rough and the one is missing the bracket, not worth $200 in this condition! Expect to completely rebuild any used calipers you buy, not difficult, not expensive but necessary!

Any rotors you buy request the buyer to mic the thickness so you know where you're at if you decide to have them resurfaced!

As Jeff mentioned that is a big price for those calipers.
Maybe ask over on the CB1100F.net site in the For Sale/Wanted section.
