Shim between rear brake piston and pad - how essential?

Post by sixinoz »

Seems like the shim has gone missing from my bike ages ago. How important is this? I see it is no longer available.

I think it is supposed to an anti-squeal device. Many bikes out there have lost them long ago too, with no ill effects. I certainly keep them on when I find them, but not necessary.

Yes --- same thing as found on pads for many cars.
