chain catching?

Hi Guys

Being new to CBX's I have question I hope someone will answer.

On the centre stand with the final drive chain adjusted as per the manual, if you spin my back wheel backwards, my chain catches on a vertical frame lug welded above the swinging arm. I guess this lug is there to prevent damage to the frame if the chain got really slack. if I spin the wheel forward, direction of travel, it does not catch. I presume when the bike is off its centre stand, the clearance is greater?

can anyone confirm this is OK or have I now got other problems?

Best Regards
Martin

I have to check that on my bike. Never realized this. But consider that on the c/s, your rear wheel drops down quite a bit.

You should be able to spin the wheel freely in either direction with the bike on the centerstand. The situation would be worse with the bike off the stand and you on it. Are you running all-stock components there (swingarm, wheels, sprocket sizes)?

Hi dave
Yes, all is stock so a bit strange. I will have to investigate and let you know. One thing after another at the moment, will I ever get it finished!

Martin, i don't see any lug on the frame in that area.
Is it the tab on the top of the swingarm where the chain is catching?
Regardless, the chain would have to be way too slack for that to come into play.

Trying to picture this!
In this scenario, the chain strand ABOVE the swingarm is under tension :? The strand BELOW is slacking (return).

A couple of pics would be good here. I should have realized earlier also - there is no tab welded to the frame above the swingarm. There's no way a chain can contact the frame there. You have something that was added if you have a tab there.

There is a small tab welded on top of the swingarm. It is a guard for the chain, I think.
