Thanks for the chain/centerstand posing

Post by allilump »

Thanks to all who participated in the chain/centerstand posting last week (I think). My 79 had the exact condition that was described. The groove in the centerstand was getting pretty deep. I'm sure the problem has been there since the exhaust system was installed by the previous owner, or the one before him. :? I rigged something up temporarily until my welder friend can fabricate something a little more elegant. I would have ridden to Marlinton and back with the chain rubbing the whole way....the thought of what could have happened spooks me.

EMS,

Thanks for the compliment. I have the same opinion on your collection. I'm thinkin of selling the 00 RT if you know of anyone. July is pretty tied up for me at this point.

centerstand woes......

Post by sr71cbx »

allilump,

The centerstand issue sure didn't sound too groovy to me-----the chain likely would have weakened the centerstand to the point where it wouldn't have had a leg to stand on,so to speak............ :yikes: ,good thing you caught it in time!! 8)

Chain/centerstand problem fixed

Post by allilump »

Had my welder neighbor weld on a bracket to the swingarm, and it worked great. :D I recommend that anyone with a header on your CBX check this potentially dangerous condition and tend to it immediately. I can e-mail you a digital photo of my fix if you like.
