How to count chain links?

Thought I knew this but now not so sure. See picture. If I count per A, I get 52 links (less master). Problem is I browsed several places discussing CBX chains/sprockets/etc. and several places suggested 104 links for an 18/42-530 (what I have). That implies a link is represented by B in my picture. I was going to order a 100 link chain thinking I only need 52 links but 2x52=104. I kinda want to get this right the first time :-)

I have always just counted the outside plates similar to the method used in this video.

For your 18/42 stock would be 108 for the 81/82 prolink and 102 for the 80.

Sorry I didn't mention my CBX is a 79.

I'm not certain on that one. The 530 chain on your 79 is a conversion from the OEM 630 chain.

You count each pin. The correct length for a '79-'80 with 530 chain is 102 pins, I think.
