WIDEST TIRE ON STOCK 79 REAR RIM

Post by twinegar »

The subject line says it all. The widest that will fit the OEM rear wheel without rubbing anything?

I believe that these tires are supposed to be the widest you can use. As the ad states, they were discussed in a previous XPress article.

I use them on my '79 and '80. As the ad also states, they have good traction but they do wear relatively quick.

The very narrow '79 rear rim can't really handle much bigger than a 120 tire due to the altered profile it would give the tire. A 130 would be the absolute max for the stock '79. There are lots of other wheel choices, but they wouldn't look stock.
