Bridgestone S11

Post by cross »

It's official guys, Bridgestone has discontinued S11's in 130/90-18, front is still available though.
I've been looking online and haven't found them anywhere

Sacha, there are a couple on E-Bay but i would certainly be asking for the build date before purchasing.

I found that out 6 weeks ago and searched everywhere too. Called a few places that said they had the S11 rear in stock but really didn't. The last few on Ebay are crazy expensive. I'm on my last set now and not too much mileage left. Soon I will have to make the decision between Shinko Tourmaster or Kenda Challenger. I think right now I'm leaning towards the Shinko.

americanmototire.com has them, at least according to their web site and they are $88.70 front and $111.75 rear and free shipping. On top of that there is Bridgestone $50 gift card if you buy set.
I'm just not sure of the date of production. It seems that every time i buy tires online they are at least 2 years old. I just bought rear for my triumph and it is 3 years old.
Tiresunlimited.com also has them only are more expensive and they charge shipping.
I personally would go with 80 profile for the back with michelin or bridgestone instead of shinko or kenda with stock /90

Thanks for the tip about americanmototire.com. My first set of tires for the X was an 80 profile in the rear. I really disliked how she sat with the sidestand and it was such a bear to put on centerstand too. Three sets of Bridgestones later and I have become quite comfortable with them. Just curious what would be an acceptable build date before someone would consider them too old to ride on...

Not sure but when i bought my last set 3 years ago from Dennis Kirk they were two years old and now after about 7k miles they are gone which i think is ok.
For my triumph i bought rear tire last week and it is 3 years old so i guess it depends on how many miles you put on your bike but i wouldn't buy a tire with older than 3 years for my self since i know that i'll be wearing them out in few years.

By the way, one of the eBay sellers "mayor_cars" sent me date codes and they are 2509 and 3809 which is mid 2009 and that is too old, 7 years. Americanmototire.com cannot provide me with the date codes so I'm contemplating ordering from them. If they end up too old it will probably take $50 to ship them back if they take them so perhaps i should just get the Michelin and get on with it. My bike did have /80 tire in the back when i bough it and it wasn't so bad, it was more upright than now but still not dangerously upright, now i sometimes think it leans over too much.
I'm wondering if 140/80-18 tire would fit in the back? I'm sire someone has tried already, i'll search the forum

Tires should be good for seven years from the date of manufacture. Of course, they do not improve with age :-)

Were you able to get a tire from them?

Our inquiries must have caused them to update their inventory. I decided to jump on the S11's this morning and now they no longer show a 130-90-18 in stock anymore. Figures...

Unless somebody here says to absolutely stay away from the Shinko, I'm going to order a set this evening.

Certainly read great things about both the 009 Raven and the 230 TourMaster.

Hmm, i have to take a look because i didn't see them there the other day when i looked. Only other side that had them was tiresunlimited.com but more expensive and they also charge shipping.
I'll check J&P and i hope that they have it because bridgestone has $50 gift card promotion when you buy a set and S11's qualify for it

Thanks
