Is there good way to renew the rubber on footpegs?

The rubber on my footpegs is showing it's age. The rubber is worn down pretty good. I'll just bet these are pricey at Honda or they don't have them any longer. Anyone found a better way?

I think also, that maybe www.cbxman.com offers this?

The rebuild involves using replaceable rubber from a later model Honda that has very similar pegs. Rubber is held on with separate, steel parts and screws are inserted through the pegs. I did this on a set of my pegs and I like them. They have more cushion than a stock peg.

I hope someone else can supply more details on the part numbers used in the repair.

I wrote a Tech article for this and it is posted over at http://www.cbxworld.com in the Tech section. Complete with pictures and part numbers. Check it out.

Basically you use the replaceable rubbers that are on the CX650T pegs. Requires removing the rubber from the CBX peg and drilling a couple of holes in the bottom to attach the new ones. Unfortunately, since I wrote that article, Honda no longer has the metal mounting plate available, however if you are half handy with metal you should be able to fab one. As far as I know the rubber portion is still available.

Cost is significantly lower than a CBX peg - new or used. The difference in the rubber is so subtle that no one but you will know it's different.

I have seen a the last few emails.. talking about foot peg
replacements..
Over here in Northamerica any way .... Honda has made a replacement..
it is used on the CX 650 . and the CB 1100f ( CAN. ) bikes... over in
U.K. maybe the CB 900f ?? not to sure ..


you will need to do some work..


first get the old rubber off. no easy task.. drill, grind, sand ,, but
it will come off..
next you will need to order from your HOnda part's dealer. the bolts and
screws. can be aftermarket..


2 - 50661 - 425 - 700 rubbers
2 - 50619 - mc7 - 000 special plates.
4 - bolts' ( metric )
4 -lock washer
4 - washers.


You will have to drill two holes in each peg.. straight down.. a bit
off figuring out.. and presto.. it all comes together.. Only the sick
real crazy CBX man like myself will very notice the difference.and you
will have a better riding foot rest.. that in the future will be full
replaceable..
. should be able to do both pegs for under 45.00 bucks..

Another version..........


Len: OK, here's the skinny, Cut off as much as the old rubber as poss. Use a
wire wheel to get the rest off. Use the new rubber #1396373 with stopper
plate # 1396365 to mark screw holes. Drill out with a drill bit. On the
bottom, grind off two flat spots for the bolts and washers to rest flat and
square on the peg.

Plate, Foot Peg Stopper 1396365
Bolt, Hex 5X25 0207852
Bolt, Hex 5X28 0222703


Plus 4 washers and lock washers 0r use the easy way out, buy the complete
rebuildable peg assy

All numbers from a CX 650 Turbo 1983 Model. The are the American Honda
numbers, for Canadian numbers, get the fiche numbers from your local Calgary
Honda dealer for CX 650 Turbo. I dunno if all the parts are still available.

I wasn't able to get the 50619-MC7-000 part back when I did my foot pegs. I thought about making the parts like Honda did with nuts welded on for the screws. What I ended up doing was making the parts out of thin steel plate and then just drilling and tapping for the screws. It was relatively easy to do.

After doing this mod to my pegs some one asked me about using a different fastener and mounting it flush. I found some 5mm stainless steel allan head type bolts and put a 5mm deep counter bore on the peg. Turned out very well I must say.
