Oil Pan / Starter Mounting Tabs Broken

Post by windswept6 »

Hi, so I am doing a restoration on an '82 Prolink and getting close to painting the motor and all parts / covers, etc.

I have a total of (3) cast parts with broken mounting "tabs":
Oil Pan
Starter housing
Primary cover

What can be done to repair these- short of hunting down new covers / housings?

Thanks

Good used sump covers and sprocket covers are out there pretty cheap. And someone will have a junk starter you can rob parts from. Get the replacements - don't fool around trying to fix those.

Bigger question to me is this - if this much damage was done by a PO to these simple-to-remove parts, what other serious damage did he inflict deeper in?

Dave

I agree- that's the first thing I started thinking after looking at all of these broken tabs, but the inside of the motor is really clean, including the oil pickup screen. It hardly needed static valve adjustments ( from what we could tell without being able to start it). I've only had it running once before teardown because the carbs were pretty far gone from sitting so that's all I really know so far.

Can only find (1) used starter on ebay right now for $300. It appears to work but I only need the housing.

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.

Yep, a bunch of us will be there. There's a tent in the infield sponsored by VJMC and ICOA with the "Birthday Bikes", from 1959, '69, and '79. I'll be the one who looks like Uncle Fester with a straw hat.
