Question,
If engine hydrolocks, wouldn't it help if plugs were removed and then engine cranked to release the fuel? He can try that but, this sounds like a mechanical issue.
To save the trouble of complete disassembly, I would rotate the engine with a wrench until it stops, then remove cams to release all valve tension and then try rotating the engine with wrench again. If it doesn't go, engine will have to come apart but if it does, it's in the valve train somewhere

The hydrolock, if it happened, cleared long ago. It is the damage that resulted that must be dealt with. Again, IF that's what happened.

Check for bent rod (hydrolock): Remove cylinder head. See that all pistons come to 'identical' height in cylinder block when turning crank. If uncertain after doing that, lower case must be removed. Sorry, friend.

Did you get the scope and take a look? I'm wondering if a valve hasn't broken its head off.

cams removed. All the valves looked to be good.
Still locking. Gonna flip then engine over and take off the lower casing and look see. I will update.

unlikely that this is your problem if the engine ran before without locking but the valve shim can become dislodged and while partially still in it's bucket will lock the cam, the engine will rotate to that point and back again the other direction...don't know how a shim would come out unless the bucket is chipped/broken.

So what's the verdict? Been watching this post to see what was found.

I had a similar experience with an engine I bought. This engine would not spin fully in either direction. Once I had it apart it was apparent the rod was bent and hitting the cylinder. Second one I have seen now.

Just curious if this was the issue for your bike.
