Help ID old six into six exh with removable baffles?

Post by hailwood1965 »

Hello all

I'm new here and grateful for this resource.

I'm trying to ID an old chrome CBX six into six exhaust.

Exhaust has removable baffles, via a bolt on the side of the muffler. Pipes are all in one piece--head pipe and muffler.

Any idea on who made these exhaust? Can't find a manufacturer ID anywhere. Would also like to find a suitable replacement for the top pipe on the RHS of the bike.

Also, is that really kosher to have the axle positioned right on the muffler? Both sides are like that.

Bike is a 1979 model.

Thanks.

Hale

Greetings Hale and welcome! Can't help you with your question, but more photos might help those who can.

Welcome Hale! Denco used to make a 6 into 6, but I cannot tell from your picture if this is one. A side view would be more helpful. One thing I can probably tell is, that the contact between the rear axle and the exhaust is not something you would want. The axle moves up and down with the rear suspension and will do some serious harm to the exhaust...however.. I am not sure if that matters anymore...

Here is a picture of a set of Dencos from a different thread. Looks like them.

The stacking of the mufflers and the baffles look like the Denco set that i had but they were a two piece pipe.
The mufflers were VERY close to the axle bolt but some persuasion moved the mounting tabs.

It will be tough to find a replacement muffler. You might try your local car muffler shop.

I can't think of a one piece. Maybe the old G.P. systems from Tims? Powerflow from South Africa?

btw, welcome to the site.

Thanks everyone.

Looks like they are Denco exhaust pipes.

Too bad, I was looking forward to hearing what a 1000cc six into six exhaust might sound like.
