Why not going back to stock, Dan? You may get better performance also. The 6-1s were the worst of all exhausts as far as that is concerned. Prolink exhausts are available in numbers.

No way, Dan! Maybe in the seller's dreams. And it doesn't have to be NOS. You should be able to get a vgc Prolink exhaust for $800.-

I know Louis will argue with me 8)

Dan,

You can drill out the three pop rivets that DG uses. Then you can remove the black end cone and the baffle. It is sometimes difficult to remove the baffle. If that is the case, I recommend pulling the megaphone unit as a whole and use a long rod to push the baffle out the rear. You can repack the baffle by wrapping it with fiberglass and hold it in place with copper wire. Reassemble with pop rivets or in my case, sheet metal screws.

Best,

Phil

thanks phil, does it make a big difference or just slighly quieter, mine is pretty loud so i don't think it has any packing left

Dan,

The tighter you wrap it and the more glass you use, the quieter it will be. If you really do want it quieter, be sure to pack the entire length of the baffle and have the outside diameter of the packing touching the wall of the megaphone.

Best,

Phil

Dan, To add to Phil's most excellent advice, If you "also" reduce the port size (a washer welded in the exit hole) this would drastically reduce the noise issues. Small hole.... less noise, I'm sure you could come up with a balance of maximum horsepower with respectable sound.....

And don't use just any fiberglass to repack the pipe, most bigger bike dealers sell muffler repacking, usually in the dirt bike accessories section.

Dan, To add to Jeff's advice, JC Whitney is also a good source for glass packing for mufflers........

When I used to ride my triples a lot, I would get packing out of the basement of the house but it wouldn't last as long as fiberglass made for packing exhaust.
