can a pulse coil assembly from an 81' be retrofitted to a 1980 model?

I am sure it would work but you would have to change out the plug connector.

Is there another name for this part?
I am not familiar with pulse coil assembly?

More info' needed on this issue.

If you mean you want to replace one of the 3x pulser units bolted to a common plate that sits in front of the auto-advance & retard unit and it mounted under the small cover at 2 o'clock on the clutch cover then it may be possible.

But the '81 has (IIRC) 1/8" connectors on the wiring vs 1/4" on the '80 model.

If that is the case then I do have some information that could help to fit it into the correct position on the 6 pin connector on the '80.

If it is not that unit, then we need more info' pls. Pics would help too.

I think 'pulse coil' is a perfectly adequate description of the part in question. That's what I've always called them. FWIW, Honda calls it the 'Pulse Generator'.
