Neutral Light

Post by Dudney »

I have an issue with the neutral light on my 1981 CBX. It doesn't come on when the bike is in neutral but the bike will start. the switch appears to work as the bike will not start if it is not in neutral, but will start with the clutch pulled in. I don't believe it is the bulb in the light as if i attempt to start the bike in gear, the light will flash on when the starter is pushed. Any help on where to look for the issue?

It's likely the diode. It is located under the tank, plugged into the wiring harness. It is a small black 'box' with a two-pronged plug. They are still available from Honda. Alternately, you still should check the neutral wire connection at the sender, located under the small engine cover in front of the alternator. Bummer is you have to loosen and drop the left pipe a couple of inches to get the cover off.

You have the correct part number. Honda has them.
