Alternator problem

Post by Erik1246 »

Hi i just bought my first cbx 550, 1982. And the problem start a couple of weeks after i buy it...
It seems like the battery disscharge when i drive the bike. I can drive about 2-3 hours, then when i turn of the bike, the battery is dead, load the battery with a battery charger, and the bike works about 2 hours again. When i measure the voltage, the alternator doesnt load att all under about 2500 rpm.
When i rew the engine to 3000 or more, its about 14 volt, wich means the alternator load. What do you think?

Hi Erik.
This site is dedicated to the 6 cylinder CBX but a lot of charging problems are universal.
Have a look at this thread about charging problems on a cb750sc whose electrics i think are very similar to your bike.
