Idle Speed

Post by EMS »

There is no particular idle speed specified. If the bike is tuned within the specification, idle speed should be within 800 - 1000 rpm. Ignition timing and fuel/air mixture need to be set according to specs and the idle speed will automatically follow. You can not expect to have the correct settings just by setting an idle speed. The tuning for an internal combustion engine is always a compromise, unless you incorporate variable valve timing. The factory specs are heavily influenced by emmission regulations and may not represent optimum performance. If an engine is tuned for optimum performance at a certain rpm range, it may have lousy idle.

In an efort to ease your ongoing pain, I will specifically browse for a CBX250 service and/or owners manual during the upcoming AMA Vintage Days weekend. Sit tight!
