Carb bowl drain screw O rings
Hello!!
I'm sure this has been asked many times but I am in need of the O rings that fit the carb drain screws.
Local Honda dealer says none available.
Anyone know of a source for these, I'm itching to go for another ride!!
Thanks
Randy

In the mean time, until you find o-rings, I think you can ride all you want. Just screw the screws in till the bowls do not drain. The screw seals the bowl drain, not the o-ring. The only purpose of the o-rings is to prevent leakage when you loosen the screws to drain the bowl.

Now that you mention it, it makes sense.
I'll report back tomorrow.
Thanks

Re: Carb bowl drain screw O rings
Appreciate the replies!!
I had a nice ride, without o rings, LOL
Carbs are probably plugged, draining them a couple of times didn't help.
Needs some choke even when warm, normal after a long rest I suppose.
I drained them years ago but I guess "carb crustys" never sleep.
At the time I never dreamed I would let it sit so long.
Thanks
Randy

Re: Carb bowl drain screw O rings
Before you remove the carbs for a proper cleaning have a look at this on-bike cleaning tutorial from Mike Nixon.
A long shot but MIGHT be worth a try.

As Dave points out it will take most of us 2 or 3 attempts at getting them sorted.

Re: Carb bowl drain screw O rings
I appreciate the link!!
Mike Nixon seems to be "the man"
I saw a youtube where a guy drained his carbs, filled them with seafoam and let it set overnight.
I have no experience with seafoam, has anyone tried this or is it discouraged.
Thanks
Randy

Re: Carb bowl drain screw O rings
I use 2 or 3 ounces of Seafoam 2 or 3 times a year in a full tank of gas.
Somebody here found an analysis saying that it was mostly alcohol so i wouldn't bother with the overnight soak.
MIGHT not be good for the o-rings either.

Re: Carb bowl drain screw O rings
Member of the been there done that crowd in regards to the CBX carbs.
The 79 sat a little longer than I realized with ethanol fuel in it. Very hard to start and ran very crappy. Flushed the float bowls of baby crap green fuel then tried the seafoam method in a tank of fuel it helped but the bike was still not running right.
Lesson learned, drain float bowls and run ethanol free fuel when I can.

Re: Carb bowl drain screw O rings
Mike,
There have great reports of success using some Techron in the fuel tank. It is currently on sale at Costco @ about 30% off.
Maybe try a heavy dose through your carbs.I think I paid $20.00 for a case.
Best,
Phil

Better late to the party than never, I guess.
I would add that Honda themselves decided later the o-rings were superfuous. Though using the same exact screw, with the o-ring grooves, all the 90s carbs have no o-ring.
