Fuel shutoff

Post by Inherited 79Cbx »

Curious if anyone knows what the thread size is on the petcock nut. My oem petcock is leaking at the shutoff handle and want to get an aftermarket one on it until I get a new oem one or rebuild kit for it. Does anyone have a lead or know of a cheap aftermarket to get by with for a few months? Thanks for any help.

One of the few things that is still relatively cheap from Honda.

1982 petcock is different from the other 3 years.

I saw those on there but don't have the money at this time. Had to order new clutch friction plates today. Thanks for the info on the year differences. Learning as I go here.

The thread size is an 18mm.
You can rebuild the original '79 petcock for under $10.00. You might consider that as opposed
to buying a piece of junk from eBay for $15 or $20 dollars that does not flow any fuel.
Best,

Thanks Phil, I will definitely look into a rebuild kit. Just getting excited to get it on the road. Do you have a link to a good USA supplier for a rebuild kit?

You will want to be very careful when you take apart your petcock.
There is a small spring and ball bearing that will want to go flying when you take
the front plate off. I usually grind off the rivet heads. Then you can drill them out
after you get it disassembled. Maybe take it apart inside a cardboard box so things
don't fly too far :-)
