Hi, I have a 1982 super sport with just the front fairing, when riding I'm getting fumes not sure if it's exhaust or gas. When I stop I smell it all over my clothes. I check for any leaks for gas or exhaust and finding none. (HELP) it's so bad after a 25 mile ride I have to change clothes and take a shower to get rid of smell.

How is your oil consumption?
Seeing as you can't find any oil, gas or exhaust leaks maybe you are burning oil.

No problem with oil everything is fine.
At first I thought the exhaust was leaking where
The pipes goes into the mufflers, check them no
leaks.
Then I thought maybe drops of gas leaking on hot
pipes and don't see any, its got to be one or the other.

Funny you notice that too - I've had 4 or 5 Pro-Links and I've noticed the same thing from time-to-time. Somehow the air flow around the fairing is creating negative pressure and exhaust fumes are actually pushed back to the rider. That said, if your carbs have been richened up a bit or something isn't quite right there, it will be far worse. With completely stock jetting, mine weren't too bad that way, but on a couple I've shimmed the needles and on those bikes it was far worse. You aren't imagining it, it happens. Be sure your carbs are in pretty good shape.

Some things to check.
Exhaust leaks at the engine to pipe joints
Blown head gasket, carb side.
Rubber donuts between carbs and head not seated correctly (but you would be running crappy if this happens)
Crank case vent not situated properly
Capillory leak at petcock or fuel filter (ie no dripping but any cloth coming into contact will soak up fuel)
Fuel leak at carbs , engine heat will evapourate fuel so no drips but it will stink.(had this happen once, 1 turn on fuel hose clamp no more stink)
Gas tank leak along spine tunnel
If your running without an air filter system then carb stand off will cause that issue.

Mouse - I'm sure it's exhaust gasses that he's smelling - not raw gas evaporate. I think it's pretty normal to smell a bit on the faired models as I said, but excessively may mean the bike is running too rich. And some are much more sensitive to odors such as that, I know I am.

Hi Dave;
I know the sensitive to odor thing. I can also tell when some one is running rich or using cheap fuel by the smell. I was just thinking if he can smell it to the degree that he needs to shower after a ride then raw fuel evaporate might be the issue.
